Felix Nonwovens supplies nonwovens and lightweight thermoplastic composites to the automotive sector from our plant in Eskişehir, Türkiye. The range covers spunbond components for interiors and filters, and needle-punched glass fiber/polypropylene (GF/PP) composite sheets for parts that need strength at low weight.
Nonwovens for vehicle interiors
Felix nonwoven is used in automotive in these areas:
- inside door panels
- inside seats
- under upholstery
- trunk upholstery
- ceiling (headliner) and inner upholstery
- acoustic parts
- filters
- wrapping vehicles in nonwoven instead of nylon before delivery to the end user
It is also used as the secondary interlining of car mats, carpet tiles and restroom mats, and as reinforcement for fiber glass and fabrics. In buses, planes and other public transport, a flame-retardant grade is used for headrest covers to improve passenger safety.
Production range: 18 g/m² to 150 g/m².
Automotive approvals and test documentation are available on request.
Thermoplastic glass fiber PP composite (GF/PP)
Our lightweight reinforced thermoplastic GF/PP composite sheet combines the low weight of polypropylene with the high strength of glass fiber.
How it is made
- Polypropylene and glass fiber are combined.
- Needle punching turns them into a durable mat or felt.
- The mat is heat-pressed into a solid composite sheet.
Properties and benefits
- Lower weight and higher strength, for uses where durability and performance matter
- Can be laminated to PE films, fabrics or other composites without extra adhesive, which simplifies production
- Can be customised and cut to size, which also helps keep shipping costs down
- Cost-effective
A datasheet with glass fiber content, sheet thickness, areal weight, sheet size and mechanical data (tensile and flexural) is available on request.
Carbon fiber PP composite
We also produce a thermoplastic carbon fiber reinforced polypropylene lightweight composite for parts that need an even higher strength-to-weight ratio. A datasheet is available on request.
Composites processing: IZOTEX and SUPERFORM
For composite manufacturers who use resin infusion, our IZOTEX and SUPERFORM engineered nonwovens act as both peel ply and resin distribution media in a single layer, replacing the conventional two or three layers. They separate easily after moulding, which saves material and labour. They are also used with PRE-PREG, hand lay-up and vacuum bagging.
Typical development process
- Brief: share the part, the target weight and the performance requirements.
- Material proposal: we propose a nonwoven weight or a GF/PP construction.
- Trials: trial quantities for your moulding or lamination line.
- Serial supply: rolls or cut sheets to your dimensions.
Because GF/PP sheets can be laminated without extra adhesive, many customers combine the composite with a decorative fabric or PE film in one step and so cut process stages. The sheet is made of thermoplastic, so in principle it can be reheated and formed. Forming temperatures and recyclability information are available on request.
Why Felix for automotive
