A laminated nonwoven combines two or more layers, typically spunbond nonwoven and a barrier or breathable film, into one material. The result has properties that a single layer cannot give. Felix Nonwovens produces the spunbond, the film and the laminate in-house in Eskişehir, Türkiye, so each layer is designed for the laminate it goes into.
How we laminate
Most of our laminates are made by hot-melt lamination: a hot glue layer bonds the nonwoven to the film. On our Triplex drape fabric, a hydrophilic spunbond is hot-melt laminated to a micro-embossed barrier film.
Besides hot-melt lamination, we also offer ultrasonic lamination, calender lamination and heat sealing, so the bonding method can be matched to the materials and the end use.
Contract and toll lamination
Contract lamination and contract manufacturing are our main competitive advantage. Brands and converters can send us their own materials for toll lamination, or have us manufacture the complete laminate to their specification on our lines. We also carry out toll hot-melt lamination for major brands. With ultrasonic, hot-melt and calender lamination and heat sealing under one roof, we can take on a wide range of material combinations.

Where our laminates are used
Laminated nonwovens let a converter replace several separate layers with one roll and so simplify production. In operating rooms our Biflex and Triplex fabrics become disposable drapes and compresses, and SFS and reinforced gown fabrics become surgical gowns for longer and fluid-intensive procedures. In hygiene, textile backsheet gives diapers a cloth-like outer cover that still blocks liquid. In personal protection, Microprotect is cut and sewn into disposable coveralls. In construction, breathable membranes such as Bodygard housewrap and roofing underlayment keep moisture and air out of the building envelope and let water vapour escape. In automotive, laminated car cover fabric protects vehicles from UV, dust and rain.
Textile backsheet specifications
- Laminated weight: 27–300 g/m²
- Water vapour permeability: 500–9,500 g/m²/24 h (ASTM E96-2000, desiccant)
- Liquid barrier, softness, textile-like look and texture
Medical laminates and EN 13795
Our Triplex fabrics absorb liquid quickly and hold it in the barrier layer. We state that our medical fabrics made to EN 13795 perform at least twice the minimum limit values required in the operating room. Our laboratory tests liquid penetration resistance (water column), strike-through and wetback.
Breathable or barrier?
We can laminate with breathable film, which lets water vapour through and blocks liquid (for example 200 g/m²/24 h WVTR in our standard breathable film), or with barrier film for maximum protection. Choose by end use: comfort and breathability for hygiene and gowns, full barrier for drapes and impervious gowns.

FAQ
What is the difference between Biflex and Triplex? Biflex has two layers (spunbond + film). Triplex has three and adds an absorbent hydrophilic layer for surgical drapes.
Can you laminate breathable film for hygiene? Yes. Our textile backsheet is nonwoven hot-melt laminated to breathable film, 27–300 g/m².
Do you produce the film yourselves? Yes. We make cast films, including breathable and micro-embossed films.
Can you develop a laminate for a non-medical use? Yes. Send us your requirements and we will check feasibility case by case. Contract and toll lamination is one of our core strengths.
