Felix Nonwovens manufactures 100% polypropylene (PP) spunbond nonwoven at our plant in Eskişehir Organized Industrial Zone, Türkiye. We supply roll goods to converters in hygiene, medical, agriculture, furniture and bedding, packaging, construction and automotive, and we use our own spunbond as the base for many of our laminates.
How spunbond is made
Spunbond technology has developed rapidly over the last 20 years and is now a core process for technical textiles and nonwovens. Polypropylene granules are melt-extruded into continuous filaments. These are laid down directly as a web and thermally bonded into fabric. Continuous filaments give the fabric high strength.
Specifications
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Raw material | 100% polypropylene |
| Weight range | 10–100 g/m² |
| Production widths | 160, 320, 400 and 540 cm, slit to customer widths |
| Fibre distribution | Even across the surface; MD:CD ratio about 2:1 |
| Bonding | Thermal |
| Options | UV stabilised, absorbent (hydrophilic) or repellent, anti-static, flame retardant |
For hygiene and medical grades we also make SMS, SMMS and SSMMS (10–100 g/m²) in production widths of 160, 320, 400 and 540 cm. Standard colours are white, black, grey, blue and yellow; special colours are available on request. Rolls are supplied in diameters of 10–120 cm on 3-inch or 6-inch cores.
Ultra-fine fibre spunbond
We produce ultra-fine denier filament PP spunbond. Finer filaments give a softer hand and more even coverage at the same weight. Our ultra-fine spunbond is made from 1.2–1.3 dpf filaments, which give an ultra-soft yet highly durable fabric.
Applications
- Hygiene: topsheet, backsheet, leg cuff, core wrap
- Medical: disposable drapes, gowns, visitor gowns, doctor caps, shoe covers and masks
- Agriculture: frost blankets and crop covers with UV protection
- Furniture and bedding: pocket spring nonwoven, mattress and furniture components
- Home textiles and quilting
- Bags and packaging: reusable shopping bags and promotional bags
- Construction and geotextiles: filtration, reinforcement and protection
- Automotive: interior components, filters, vehicle wrapping
Choosing the right spunbond
Weight is the first choice. Light weights at the low end of our range suit hygiene topsheets and medical components, where softness and coverage matter. Medium weights suit agricultural covers, bags and furniture components. Weights at the top of our range suit applications that need strength, such as construction, geotextiles and automotive parts. The second choice is the finish: UV stabilisation for outdoor exposure, hydrophilic for fast liquid acquisition, repellent for barrier layers, plus anti-static or flame-retardant treatment where the end use requires it. The third choice is structure: plain SS spunbond, or SMS/SMMS with meltblown layers for higher barrier at low weight. Share your end use and our team will recommend a weight and finish. Colour matching is available on request.
Laboratory testing
Our laboratory tests hydrostatic water pressure resistance, strike-through time, wetback and other physical properties. Felix is ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 certified, and CE, EUDAMED and FDA registered.
Spunbond as a base for laminates
Much of our spunbond goes into our own laminates. Biflex and Triplex surgical drape fabrics, SFS gown fabric, textile backsheet and Microprotect coverall fabric all start from Felix spunbond. Because we control the base fabric, we can tune weight, finish and bonding for each laminate.
