Felix Nonwovens produces breathable films and breathable membranes at our plant in Eskişehir, Türkiye. A breathable film blocks liquid water but lets water vapour pass, so products stay dry on the outside and comfortable on the inside. We supply the film on its own and laminated to our spunbond nonwovens.
How our breathable film is made
Our breathable films are made with cast film technology and embossed with chill-roll technology. The film has nano-porous structures that set how much water vapour passes through. We can produce wide or narrow nano-porous structures to order, which lets us control vapour transmission for each use.
Performance
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Technology | Cast film, chill-roll embossed |
| Water resistance | Water column from 100 cm H₂O |
| Water vapour transmission (WVTR) | 200 g/m²/24 h |
| Pore structure | Wide or narrow nano-porous, to order |
Film weights range from 12 to 20 g/m². The film is available in white, blue or green, in a 160 cm roll width, and higher-WVTR grades are also available.
Applications
- Hygiene: diaper backsheet and the outer layers of disposable underpads
- Medical: breathable laminates for drapes and gowns
- Construction: roof underlayment and housewrap (see Bodygard)
- Agriculture and geotextiles
- Footwear and insulation
- Furniture, beds and promotional products
- Technical textiles and industrial composites
Laminated breathable products
We laminate breathable film to nonwovens in several products:
- Textile backsheet: nonwoven + breathable film by hot-melt lamination, 27–300 g/m², with water vapour permeability of 500–9,500 g/m²/24 h (ASTM E96-2000, desiccant)
- Breathable medical laminates: Viscose Biflex and Viscose Triplex for the A-class segment, and fully reinforced breathable surgical gown fabric
- Bodygard housewrap and roofing underlayment: breathable barriers against moisture and air
- Breathable carpet backing membrane and carpet padding
Why breathability matters
Liquid barrier on its own is not enough in many products. A diaper with a non-breathable backsheet traps heat and humidity against the skin. A roof membrane that blocks vapour can let condensation build up inside the structure. A surgical gown with no breathability becomes uncomfortable in long procedures. A breathable film solves this: its nano-pores are large enough for water vapour molecules but too small for liquid water to pass at the rated water column. Products stay dry from outside and release humidity from inside, which improves comfort for people and durability for buildings and goods.
Choosing the right breathable film
Start from the end use. For hygiene backsheets, softness and a high vapour transmission matter most, and the film is usually laminated to spunbond for a textile feel. For construction membranes, mechanical strength and long-term water resistance are key, so the film is laminated into a multi-layer housewrap or underlayment. For medical laminates, the barrier level against liquids is the priority and breathability adds comfort. Tell us your target water column, WVTR, weight and lamination partner, and our team will propose a pore structure and construction. Our breathable films are suited to hygiene, construction and medical uses, and our team recommends the grade for your application.

FAQ
What does breathable mean for a film? It lets water vapour pass and blocks liquid water.
What water column does your film reach? From 100 cm H₂O.
What is the WVTR? Our standard breathable film transmits 200 g/m²/24 h. Laminated textile backsheet ranges from 500 to 9,500 g/m²/24 h.
Can you laminate the film to spunbond? Yes. Ask about textile backsheet and our breathable medical laminates.
